Soda Stereo formed in Buenos Aires in the early part of the eighties, and managed to become one of the most influential bands in rock and pop in all of Latin America. The early history of Soda Stereo took place when Gustavo Cerati and Zeta Bossio were at college together at the University of Salvador in 1982, and decided to form a band inspired by The Police. With the addition of Charly Alberti on drums, the formation of the trio was complete. Inspired by new wave, with hints of reggae and ska, Soda Stereo managed to evolve towards a pure pop sound. In 1995, Soda Stereo released the successful Sueño Stereo and put on and MTV Unplugged special (Comfort y música para volar) In 1997, they announced the groups end and began their final and extensive tour through Latin America, at the close of which they did two shows at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires.
